DALLAS, Texas – August 1, 2019 – Nimbix, the leading high-performance computing (HPC) cloud platform provider, today announced their collaboration with the US Sailing Team (USST) as the “Official Compute Partner of the US Sailing Team.

USST performance analyst, engineer and computational fluid dynamics expert, Dr. Riley Schutt lauded the opportunity to work with Nimbix.  “Accurately simulating the aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, and structural dynamics of Olympic sailing boats is a very computationally intensive task, needing many thousands of central processing unit hours,” said Dr. Schutt. “The US Sailing Team's partnership with Nimbix, a world leader in providing cloud-based High Performance Computing (HPC)  resources, will give us a competitive edge in being able to run many high-fidelity simulations on their HPC cloud infrastructure.”

Dr. Schutt is uniquely positioned to lead this effort for the US Sailing Team, having plied his trade in the worlds of the America’s Cup and what was formerly the Volvo Ocean Race where simulation efforts are synonymous with success.

“For us, it is all about providing the team with fast access to high performance cloud computing to support their supercomputing simulation needs.  The team is using software to analyze high priority fluid-structure studies that will hopefully help the team stand atop the podium,” said Nimbix CEO, Steve Hebert.

US Sailing’s Chief of Olympic Sailing, Malcolm Page is also looking forward to providing the US Sailing Team athletes with more resources through this partnership,

“We’ve recently begun the athlete trials and are officially within a year of the Tokyo 2020 Games,” said Page. “As we near the penultimate moments of selection and preparation, we want to continue to offer our athletes the best support possible. In these high-performance fleets, it’s important to have technological resources on our side. Data doesn’t lie, and it provides a concrete foundation of knowledge that our athletes can rely on for improvement.”
